Brazil - Floods and landslides, update (ECHO 28 Mar 2024)

The number of casualties and damage continues to rise, following the heavy rainfall that has been affecting south-eastern Brazil, causing floods and triggering landslides.
As of 27 March, according to the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and media reports, at least 20 fatalities have been reported in Espirito Santo State, of whom 18 in Mimoso do Sul and 2 in Apiacá Municipalities (southern Espirito Santo State). In addition, seven people are still missing and 7,708 people have been displaced throughout the Espirito Santo State. Several highways are closed due to landslides. The most affected Municipalities are Apiacá, Mimoso do Sul, Vargem Alta Muniz Freire and Bom Jesus do Norte.
Over the next 24 hours, more rainfall is forecast over southern Espirito Santo States.
