Greece - Severe weather and floods, update (ECHO 29 Sep 2023)

Heavy rainfall hit central Greece over the past few days, causing floods, triggering landslides and leading to damage and evacuations. The worst affected areas are Volos City in Thessaly Region and Evia Island.
According to media, in Volos City, more than 250 people have been evacuated, power outages have been registered due to heavy rainfall and widespread floods. In Evia Island, some villages in the northern part have been ordered to evacuate.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated in rapid mapping mode on 26 September (), and two maps have been produced so far.
For the next 24 hours, moderate rain with localized thunderstorms is still expected across southern and central Greece.

The number of fatalities is increasing following the overflow of El Naranjo Riverev that affected the Guatemala City area on 24-25 September.
According to the National Coordination for Disaster Reduction (CONRED), as of 28 September, ten people died and eight are still missing.
Rescue and emergency operations conducted by national authorities are still ongoing.
For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall with localized thunderstorms is forecast over the interested area.

Philippines - Floods (ECHO 29 Sep 2023)

Heavy rainfall has been affecting the Mindanao Island in southern Philippines, in particular the Davao Region, over the past few days, causing floods and flash floods that resulted in population displacement and damage.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD DROMIC) reports, as of 28 September, 184 evacuated people - of which 44 in one evacuation center- and approximately a total of 5,500 affected people across the Padada Municipality (Davao del Sur Province, Davao Region, south-eastern Mindanao).
Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole country, with locally very heavy rainfall over the already affected Mindanao Island.
DG ECHO partners have launched rapid response in Municipality of Northern Kabuntalan and Special Geographic Areas in Pikit in Mindanao. Humanitarian partners distributed hygiene kits, sleeping materials, water kits, solar-powered lamps, and tarpaulins.
