  • An earthquake of 6.0 M at a depth of 19 km (depth of 28 km as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology - PHIVOLCS) hit eastern Mindanao Island (southern Philippines) on 1 February at 10.44 UTC (18.44 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 8 km north-west of Compostela Municipality (Davao de Oro Province, Davao Region).
  • PHIVOLCS recorded several aftershocks with magnitude up to 4.4 M in Davao Region.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 209,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and 922,000 to strong shaking.
  • According to media, there are no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.
  • Since the beginning of 2023, more than 81,000 people have been affected by heavy rain, floods, and landslides due to the combined effects of low-pressure areas, the northeast monsoon, and shearline in Davao Region.
  • For the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are forecast over Mindanao Island.
