  • An earthquake of 5.5 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in Luding County (southeastern Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, southern China) on 25 January at 19.49 UTC (26 January at 3.49 local time). The epicentre was located 27 km south-southeast of Kangding City (Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture).
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 6,000 people were exposed to strong shaking.
  • According to the media, there are no immediate reports of any casualties or damage but roads into the area of the earthquake have been blocked by rockslides triggered by the seismic event.
  • On 5 September 2022, a 6.6 M earthquake occurred in the same area resulting in more than 90 fatalities.
