  • The number of casualties in the Philippines has increased, following the shear line system (formed when cold and warm winds converge) that brought heavy rainfall, strong winds, and widespread floods on 18-30 December across ten regions of the Philippines.
  • According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), as of 2 February, 51 people died, 19 are still missing, and 16 have been injured. In addition, almost 50,000 people are still displaced, and most of them evacuated in 78 evacuation centres. Approximately 600,000 people have been affected.
  • The regions with reported fatalities are Mimaropa (1 fatality), Bicol (9), Eastern Visayas (5), Zamboanga Peninsula (4), Northern Mindanao (25), Davao Region (4) and Caraga (3).
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast across the Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Palawan. Light to moderate rain is expected across Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Bicol Region.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting northern Philippines (in particular Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and Cagayan Valley regions in Luzon Island) since early January, causing floods and landslides that have resulted in evacuations and damage.
  • The ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) reports, as of 9 January, more than 14,200 evacuated people, 11 damaged roads and a total of over 103,000 affected people across Central Luzon (the worst affected Region) due to floods. Tha same source also reports 343 evacuated people in Calabarzon and 254 evacuated people in Cagayan Valley due to floods and a number of landslides.
  • Over the next 24 hours, drier conditions are forecast over the Luzon Island.

  • Heavy rain and strong winds - due to the combined effects of low pressure area, northeast monsoon, and shearline - continue to hit several parts of the Philippines, causing floods, landslides, and severe weather-related events that resulted in an increasing number of casualties and damage.
  • The most affected regions are Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga and Barmm.
  • According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 33 people have died, 12 have been injured, and seven people are still missing. Almost 264,000 people have been displaced, more than 196,000 evacuated in 496 evacuation centres, and approximately 1,7 million were affected.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain is forecast across Bicol Region, most parts of north-eastern, central and southern Philippines. Extreme flood advisories are in effect over Bicol Region.

  • Almost 2 million people have been affected by heavy rain and strong winds due to the combined effects of low-pressure area, the northeast monsoon, and shear line across 14 regions of the Philippines.
  • According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 35 people have died, 12 have been injured, and seven people are missing. In addition, almost 122,000 people have been displaced, of which 92,118 were served inside 358 evacuation centres, and approximately 1,800 houses have been damaged or destroyed.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms is forecast over most parts of the country. Severe flood advisories are in effect for Davao and Caraga regions.

  • According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 43 people have died, 11 have been injured, and eight people are missing. In addition, almost 111,300 people have been displaced, of which 83,723 were served inside 297 evacuation centres, and more than two million people have been affected (of which more than 1 million in Eastern Visayas Region).
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms is forecast over most parts of central, north-eastern and southern Philippines.
  • Severe flood advisories are in effect for Eastern Visayas and Caraga.
Philippines, Early January 2022A combination of Low-Pressure Areas, the Northeast Monsoon and Shear Line storms triggered as many as 1,252 flood incidents and 101 landslides in the Philippines from 01 January to 21 January, according to data from NDRRMC. 1,941,146 people were affected across 51 provinces in 14 of the country's 17 regions during this period. The provinces with the highest numbers affected (as of 21 January) are Northern Samar (348,519 people affected); Eastern Samar (340,154); Samar (185,273); Zamboanga Del Norte (182,431); Leyte (145,509); Palawan (104,868); Zamboanga Del Sur (97,746); Bulacan (84,383); and Davao Del Norte (80,082). Over 1,200 houses were damaged and 548 were destroyed. 264,132 people were displaced as of 19 January. This fell to 119,121 people on 21 January. Of the 38 fatalities reported, 19 had been confirmed by NDRRMC in Eastern Samar Province (2); Leyte (3); Northern Samar (2); Zamboanga Del Norte (7); Zamboanga Del Sur (2); Misamis Oriental (2) and Davao Del Norte (1).
