  • Following the 6.5 magnitude earthquake in Maluku Province on 25 September, the death toll has risen to 37, according to the latest report of the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 7 October. 6,344 houses are damaged.
  • Emergency support is being provided by the national authorities.
  • The European Commission's Copernicus emergency satellite mapping service was activated for the affected area on 30 September. 2 grading maps have been produced so far.
  • Aftershocks continue to be felt by residents living in the area.

  • According to the last report of National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 30 September, 31 people died after the 6.5 magnitude earthquake in Maluku Province.
  • The same source reports that 179 people have been injured, 136,030 displaced and relocated in temporary refugee camps in Ambon City and West Seram Regency. At least 2,675 houses have been damaged as well as 30 buildings and 25 places of worship.
  • The Authorities continue to help the affected people with logistics assistance.
  • The Copernicus emergency satellite mapping service was activated for the affected area (EMSR393) on 30 September in rapid mapping mode.
  • Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast over the affected area for 1-2 October.

  • The National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) reports, as of 27 September, 23 people died, at least 138 have been injured and 15,000 displaced, following the 6.5 magnitude earthquake in Maluku Province on 25 September (UTC). 
  • Emergency and rescue operations are ongoing and the authorities are conducting a rapid needs assessment. BNPB estimates urgent needs of 30,000 tarpaulin sheets, 20,000 blankets, 200 family tents, 5,000 mattresses, 20,000 lighting devices, WASH facilities, water and food, medicine and psycho-social support. 
  • The needs can be met by the Government and national/local actors. The Indonesian Red Cross and some NGOs are on the ground and have started to provide assistance. 
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain is forecast over the affected area.

  • An earthquake of 6.5 M at a depth of 18.16 km occurred in the northern Banda Sea, between Seram and Ambon Islands (Indonesia) on 25 September at 23.46 UTC. The epicentre was approximately 7 km north-east of Liang Town (Ambon Island), and 8 km west of Kamarian Town (Serum Island).
  • Up to 265,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and 261,000 people to strong shaking.
  • According to initial estimates, at least 3 died in Maluku Province, and 3 were injured. Several buildings, including a bridge, have been damaged.
  • Rain is forecast over Ambon over 26-27 September.
